After reports of fear and oh noes, the webnets is showing the sweet tale of 4Chan helping a WWII vet celebrate his 90th birthday.
The poster says "Wanted, People For Birthday Party" with a picture a slightly sad looking William J Lashua. This led to the 4chan /b/ to organise sending him birthday cards and even gifts.
Though on Reddit the Grandson of William J Lashua posted how happy the family was for the love and generosity, but said the attention had been a misunderstanding since the poster was designed for people who knew William.
" It was in no way to indicate that he is alone. He has 7 children, many grandchildren, and even great grandchildren. In his younger years he was a foster parent to dozens of foster children. He is well liked in the community, and will be fully supported on his 90th birthday. I ask that if you don't know him, to not attend the party, as it is for his friends and family. The venue for the party is a very small hall, and will be full to capacity with people he knows and loves.
By all means, send cards and well wishes, but please refrain from sending gifts/strippers/cakes/candies/etc. "-Reddit http://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/comments/d8uyh/i_am_william_j_lashuas_grandso...

In the wild Chimpanzee's face dangers from hunters and poachers who set traps which kill many of the animals every year. However, Primatologist's discovered a low rate of Chimpanzee injuries and deaths in Bossou.
After studying the area they found the small groups of male Chimpanzees successfully deactivating traps set to catch wildlife.
"Mostly, the chimps grasped the snare stick with their hands, shaking it violently until the trap broke. Sometimes a chimp lightly knocked the sapling that holds the snare, before grasping it to break the trap.
But in all cases, they avoided touching the dangerous part, the wire loop.
In the video above, chimp can be seen seeking out and inspecting snares, without breaking them. "-BBC
Primatologists say this has changed the way they understand Chimpanzee can learn, since before they thought the animals only used trail and error. Stating the Chimpanzee's might have learnt from observation and passed down information through generations. However, they also report Chimpanzees in other regions have not done the same in Bossou.

The direct negotiations between Israel and Palestine in Washington are described as being constructive with more talks scheduled to take place in the Middle East in two weeks time.
Both leaders acknowledged the difficulty which would take place during talks to attain a long lasting peace, while US officials said they would support the talks without imposing a solution.
The BBC's Middle East editor reported on some of the difficulties the talks will face "Compromise between those on both sides back in Israel and the Palestinian territories who believe they are doing God's will would be much more complicated."-BBC

(from vimeo description)
Her lips are full and pink. Her teal green eyes are intense and inviting. Her black eyeliner accentuates her high cheekbones and her strawberry hair complements her light African skin. Her metallic halter dress holds her supple thighs and pushes on her round breast. She is the result of careful attention and workmanship. When you see her up close, you can’t help but stare. At $6000, she’s certainly not a cheap date. For creator, Matt McMullen, she's a work of art. For everyone else, she's a Real Doll.

As a profession it’s as old as civilisation itself, yet the debate about prostitution still rages. The secretive and dangerous nature of Britain’s clandestine sex trade has been highlighted recently by the horrific murder of prostitutes in Ipswich and, earlier this year, Bradford. Yet, despite this, we are still no nearer to deciding whether prostitution should be legalised, decriminalised or simply banned outright.
Getting behind the statistics, TV presenter Gail Porter heads on to Britain’s streets to meet the women involved and discover the real cost of the current confused policy. Travelling from red light district corners to Soho’s brothels, and out on patrol with the vice squad, she explores all aspects of the UK sex industry, before travelling to Amsterdam, New Zealand and Stockholm to learn about the differing approaches deployed overseas.
With little consensus between politicians, police, feminists and the sex workers themselves, is it time for a radical overhaul of Britain’s prostitution policies?

Due to a dry spell, the Amazon rover has been at a 40 year low leaving large boats stranded in ports and stalling water trade routes.
"Food and other supplies are now being brought in by smaller boats that can navigate the shallow channels, weaving between exposed mud banks.
But these journeys take up to twice as long, and the cost is much higher. "-BBC
The low water means economic trouble for the region and towns like Iquitos are being supplied with food through slow smaller boats. Peru's meteorological office says river levels are expected to fall further until la rainy season next month.

Mass extinctions have served as huge reset buttons that dramatically changed the diversity of species found in oceans all over the world, according to a comprehensive study of fossil records. The findings suggest humans will live in a very different future if they drive animals to extinction, because the loss of each species can alter entire ecosystems.
Some scientists have speculated that effects of humans — from hunting to climate change — are fueling another great mass extinction. A few go so far as to say we are entering a new geologic epoch, leaving the 10,000-year-old Holocene Epoch behind and entering the Anthropocene Epoch, marked by major changes to global temperatures and ocean chemistry, increased sediment erosion, and changes in biology that range from altered flowering times to shifts in migration patterns of birds and mammals and potential die-offs of tiny organisms that support the entire marine food chain.
Scientists had once thought species diversity could help buffer a group of animals from such die-offs, either keeping them from heading toward extinction or helping them to bounce back. But having many diverse species also proved no guarantee of future success for any one group of animals, given that mass extinctions more or less wiped the slate clean, according to studies such as the latest one.
Looking back in time, the diversity of large taxonomic groups (which include lots of species), such as snails or corals, mostly hovered around a certain equilibrium point that represented a diversity limit of species' numbers. But that diversity limit also appears to have changed spontaneously throughout Earth's history about every 200 million years.
How today's extinction crisis — species today go extinct at a rate that may range from 10 to 100 times the so-called background extinction rate — may change the face of the planet and its species goes beyond what humans can predict, the researchers say.
"The main implication is that we're really rolling the dice," said John Alroy, a paleobiologist at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. "We don't know which groups will suffer the most, which groups will rebound the most quickly, or which ones will end up with higher or lower long-term equilibrium diversity levels."
What seems certain is that the fate of each animal group will differ greatly, Alroy said.
His analysis, detailed in the Sept. 3 issue of the journal Science, is based on almost 100,000 fossil collections in the Paleobiology Database (PaleoDB).
The findings revealed various examples of diversity shifts, including one that took place in a group of ocean bottom-dwelling bivalves called brachiopods, which are similar to clams and oysters. They dominated the Paleozoic era from 540 million to 250 million years ago, and branched out into new species during two huge adaptive spurts of growth in diversity – each time followed by a big crash.
The brachiopods then reached a low, but steady, equilibrium over the past 250 million years in which there wasn't a surge or a crash in species' numbers, and still live on today as a rare group of marine animals.

The news story over the GMC review of pathologist Freddy Patel focused on the issues surrounding his post mortem report on the death of Ian Tomlinson. The General Medical Council have decided to suspend Dr. Patel for three months and to bar him from cases involving suspicious deaths.
The investigation found errors made in three serious cases, where the post mortems stated natural deaths while later reports found the death were suspicious.
"Dr Patel has been a forensic pathologist for over thirty years but his competence was challenged when the Metropolitan Police complained after he decided that the first victim of a serial murderer who became known as the Camden Ripper had died from natural causes. "-Channel 4

“Carnivals” is a wonderful photo-essay by photographer Jeff Seltzer, a collection of images of people who work at carnivals. Seltzer describes the “Carnivals” project: “The images were captured at three different local carnivals almost as an accident. I was just taking some family snapshots, when I noticed one of the workers looking-on with a very stoic expression. Interestingly, I saw many of the same workers at all three venues. Some see irony in the portraits, a sense of depression among the workers. I see a bit of this, but mostly just portraits of hard workers trying to make a very tough living. The carnival might be fun for attendees, but not for the workers.”
The muted colors in these photographs of the carnival workers, taken at dusk or night without flash, provide images that are sympathetic without being garish or patronizing, and reveal a sensitivity rarely shown when documenting this subject.
This piece presents a number of striking high-resolution color photographs, a slide show and an engaging video of carnival lights at night.
